Privacy Policy

cali guru ("we," "our," or "us") is an AI nutrition coach app for iPhone. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app collects, why, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. We keep it simple: we only collect what we need to run the app, we never sell your data, and we do not show ads.

1. Who We Are

cali guru is developed and operated by the independent developer named as the seller on the App Store listing. For any privacy question or request, contact us at support@caliguru.app.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information you give us

  • Profile details: name, date of birth, sex (used only for the calorie formula), height, weight, activity level, goal (lose weight, maintain or gain muscle), units and language. We use these to calculate your daily calorie range and protein target.
  • Meal photos and descriptions: the photos you take or choose and any text you write about a meal, so the AI can estimate its nutrition.
  • Your logs: meals with their calories and macros, favourites, water intake, fasting sessions and weight entries.
  • Support messages: your email address and message if you contact us.

2.2 Information collected automatically

  • Device identifiers: an installation ID and device ID. cali guru does not need an email or password; these identifiers link your data to your device.
  • Subscription status: whether you have an active Premium subscription or trial, provided by Apple through RevenueCat.
  • Usage analytics: app events such as screens opened and features used (for example "meal scanned"), used to improve the app.

2.3 Apple Health (optional)

If you choose to connect Apple Health, cali guru reads your active energy burned and step count for the current day. It uses them on your iPhone to add part of the calories you burned to your daily target.

  • Health data is read only. cali guru never writes to Apple Health.
  • Health data is processed on your device and is never sent to our servers.
  • Health data is never shared with third parties, never used for advertising or marketing, and never sold.
  • You can disconnect at any time in cali guru's Settings, or in the Health app under Sharing → Apps.

2.4 Barcode scanning

When you scan a barcode, only the barcode number is sent to Open Food Facts (openfoodfacts.org), a free and open food database, to look up the product's nutrition values. No personal information is sent with it.

2.5 Camera and photo library

cali guru only uses the camera and photo library when you choose to take or select a meal photo or scan a barcode.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To run the app: analyse your meals, save your logs and show your daily progress.
  • To personalise your plan: calculate your calorie range and protein target from your profile.
  • To manage your subscription: unlock Premium features and free trials.
  • To improve the app: understand which features are used and fix problems.
  • To help you: reply to support requests.

We do not sell your personal data, we do not show ads, and we do not use your data for advertising.

4. Services We Use

We share data only with the service providers needed to run cali guru:

  • Google Gemini (AI analysis): meal photos and descriptions are sent to Google's Gemini API to estimate nutrition. We use Google's paid API, under which Google does not use this content to train its models.
  • Cloudflare (servers and database): our app server and database, where your profile and logs are stored securely.
  • Apple and RevenueCat (subscriptions): payments are handled by Apple. RevenueCat tells the app whether your subscription is active. We never see or store your payment card details.
  • Mixpanel (analytics): app usage events linked to a random identifier, used to improve the app.
  • Open Food Facts (barcodes): receives only the barcode number you scan.

5. Storage, Security and Deletion

  • All data is sent over encrypted HTTPS connections.
  • Access to personal data is limited to what is needed to run and support the app.
  • We keep your data while you use cali guru.
  • Delete your data: use Settings → Delete Account in the app to permanently delete your profile and logs from our servers. You can also email us and we will delete your data within 30 days. Deleting the app from your phone does not by itself delete the data on our servers.

6. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, including under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you
  • correct inaccurate data (most details can be edited in Settings)
  • delete your data
  • receive a copy of your data in a portable format
  • object to or restrict certain processing
  • complain to your local data protection authority (in Malta, the Information and Data Protection Commissioner)

7. Children

cali guru is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has used the app, contact us and we will delete their data.

8. International Data Transfers

Our service providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where this happens, we rely on the safeguards these providers offer, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

9. Health Disclaimer

cali guru gives nutrition estimates for general wellness. It is not a medical device and does not give medical advice. Talk to a doctor or dietitian before making major changes to your diet.

We may update this Privacy Policy. We will post the new version on this page and update the "Last updated" date above.
